My friend helps me with this website.  He also writes two personal websites – The Vitruvian Man and E.S. Kraay Online – and writes and manages a fourth website for a friend’s company.  As if that is not enough, he is in the middle of his eighth – yes, count them eight – book that he hopes to publish by the end of the year.

In February this year, he introduced a new page to his book website that he calls “As It Is Written.”  In his words, “I’ve decided to introduce a new page on this, my writing website to explore divinely inspired passages I’ve encountered in print, music, and film.”

I was so taken by his entry today that I asked him if we can post it on Carl’s Corner.  He agreed.  I’m sure you will find value in this short post.  It is simple but powerful.

As It Is Written…

I have written your name on the palm of my hand.
Isaiah 49:

The Torah tells us in the “Shema” that our actions speak louder than our words.  The “Shema” is the first part of Jesus’ answer to the lawyer who asks him, “Teacher, which commandment is the greatest?”

Much can be said for “what is written on the palms of our hands.”  Isaiah’s statement speaks to God’s commitment to each atom of creation.

We can apply the same commitment to our own lives.  I look at the palms of my hands and see the many names I have written there… those people – family, friends, associates, dogs – who I have committed myself to.  It is good practice to write those names physically and figuratively on the palms of your hands and honor the commitment you have made to each.
